Thursday, 29. November 2018, Yorks Cafe, Policy Event - Managing the Menopause at Work

This is a Birmingham branch policy event to help inform new CIPD People Managers' Guide on managing the menopause at work.
There are now around 3.8 million women over 50 in work, and the vast majority of these will go through the menopause. The menopause is a stage of life that is as natural for women as pregnancy, and yet it remains a taboo subject in most workplaces. The research shows that, while some menopausal women receive help and understanding from colleagues and managers, over half don't disclose their symptoms to management. The result is that many women suffer in silence while often a few small adjustments at work could make a world of difference to someone experiencing some of the uncomfortable symptoms of the menopause. We need to normalise the conversation about the menopause and develop more understanding and support for women going through menopause transition. The CIPD is therefore developing new guidance for people managers on managing the menopause and would welcome your feedback on it, so that we can make sure that it covers the right issues and is accessible and helpful for HR and managers.
We would to invite you to our event on 29 November at the basement of Yorks Café on Stephenson Street in Birmingham.  You will have the opportunity to provide your feedback on our guidance and your experiences as HR professionals of managing the menopause in the workplace. You will also have the opportunity to hear from Lynda Bailey of Talking Menopause and Deborah Garlick of Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace about their experience of working with organisations to support women in the workplace who are experiencing the menopause. Spaces are limited so we would encourage you to book early.
Professional photography and video production may be taking place at the event, and these images may be used on future promotional materials for CIPD. Please note that by attending the event, you are giving your consent for your image to be used on any CIPD promotional materials.
